Jalan Kionsom – Kionsom Waterfall & Mari Mari Cultural Village, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

On the first day in Sabah (30 Oct 2019), one of the places we visited was Ulu Kionsom Waterfall which is located at the end of Jalan Kionsom. It is the nearest waterfall from the City Centre – 25 km. As we were riding a rented motorcycle, it took us about 1 hour as we rode at a slower speed. According to locals, there are 7 falls if you follow the trails. We did not explored all the falls though. We were quite lucky as it wasn’t packed with visitors.

Do take note that, there is an entry fee of about RM 2.00 per person.

On our way out, we dropped by the Mari Mari Cultural Village. The village operates as a museum that preserves Borneo ethnic culture. The village features 5 different ethnic tribes in one village. They are the rice farmer Kadazan-Dusun, the longhouse resident Rungus, the hunters and fisherman Lundayeh, the cowboy and sea gypsy Bajau, and the famously feared headhunting tribe Murut.

We came at the wrong timing. The last show has started about 1 hour ago and we were not allowed to go into the village. Any way, we were not actually concerned about it.

We rode back to the City Centre and dropped by the Signal Hill to snap some photos.
